Unbox
2025, plaster, acrylic paint
Unbox is a series of solid plaster sculptures cast from discarded cardboard boxes. Where boxes are designed to hold, protect, and disappear once emptied, these casts reverse that logic; heavy, non-functional objects give permanence to what was meant to be fleeting. Plaster fills the interior void; emptiness given a solid form. Bright, saturated colours borrow from the visual language of retail, toys and marketing. The emotional palette of consumption—excitement, desire, disappointment, satisfaction— is compressed into cheerful, stubborn objects. The work references the online ritual of “unboxing,” where suspense, packaging, and performance often eclipse the product inside. Here, there is no reveal, or perhaps the reveal is nothingness. Anticipation collapses into a solid block; hardening absence into weight
