Sausage Semiotics
2026
Wooden partitions, benches, stationery, pot plant, paper shredder, sausage press, mincer, steel hooks, papier-mâché sausages, video, audio, herbs and spices.
Sausage Semiotics presents a fictional consultancy that makes sausages from their customers’ written feedback. This satirical work borrows language from workplace consultation and civic participation, promising to “case fresh ideas” and “process feedback”, however at Sausage Semiotics these are not metaphors. The work responds to the institutional and corporate pretence of listening while ignoring the voices they claim to value.
Viewers are invited to submit their personal reflections, ambitions and feedback through a slot in a partitioned wall. Each submission is immediately and audibly shredded, to be pulped and manually processed into paper mache sausages in the sausage semiotics kitchen workshop. The work is accompanied by a video work of the papier mache sausage making process
